Hey guys! Today’s blog is all about my top 10 favorite Netflix shows to binge watch! This was a very hard list for me to make because not only do I watch a lot of regular shows, I watch a lot of Netflix original shows as well. So, if you don’t see a couple shows on this list that you, I’ve seen, just know it was hard for me to cut them out and narrow this list down to 10, because it could’ve been a lot longer! This list is going to be in order from least favorite to most favorite, starting with least favorite first, but that doesn’t mean I don’t love those shows at all or that I don’t recommend watching the least favorite shows because I recommend watching every show on this list, it just means I love them a little less than the shows I love the most.
10. Alexa & Katie
Now I feel like this is a very underrated show! It kind of reminds me of a classic Disney channel show but a little more adultish. Its still probably a PG rating but some of the stuff they go over in this show can be heartbreaking. This show is about two best friends, named Alexa & Katie, who live next door to each other, and Alexa has cancer. Now just because Alexa has cancer doesn’t mean this show is super sad all the time, sure there are a few sadder parts that I definitely cried at, but this show also has some hilarious and cute scenes and is just a great show to watch for any age! I started watching it with the younger girls I babysit, not thinking I’d like it, but I absolutely fell in love and I can’t wait for part two of season 3 to come out this year!!
9. On My Block
Before I start this one, I just wanted to let you know, Alexa & Katie is the only show on here that is all family friendly. The rest of these shows are PG-13 and up! Okay moving on. Coming in at number 9 is another show I didn’t think that I could like but man that first season really pulls you in and after that first season finale I was hooked!! This show makes me go through an array of many emotions. It makes you laugh A LOT, it makes you cry, it makes you angry and start yelling at the characters… just me? Okay. This show is all about 4 best friends, soon to be 5 in season 3, navigating the normal teenage drama that comes with high school but also navigating the drama of present and past gangs, you know normal high school stuff! These friends live in South Central LA where it’s always hot and the gangs are ready for action! When you watch this show you are going to hate characters, you are going to love characters and you are going to love characters you absolutely hated at one point. Trust me, it’ll happen. A character I didn’t really care for in season 1 is now one of my favorites in season 3. There are 3 seasons of this show, 3 was just released back in March, and its my favorite one yet. Everything that happened this past season was crazy and that jump a few years into the future in the final episode was crazy and I can’t wait for season 4 to come out!!
8. Locke & Key
Now this show only has one season out right now because it just came out in February, but when I tell you I have watched this show in two days and then all the way through 3 more times since then I am not lying! This show has everything, romance, horror, mystery, its sooo good!! If you like a little bit of Stephen King mixed with A Series of Unfortunate events, this show is for you! Now I’m not saying this show is exactly like either of those things, that’s just the vibe I get form it. This show follows a family after a tragic event has occurred in their life. They pack up everything and move all the way from Seattle to Massachusetts to live in a family heir loom house called “The Locke House”. Now it’s only called that because their last name is Locke. But when I first saw this how I thought to myself, I would love to live in that house. Its old looking but not too old and its looks so cool! Also, it has magic keys hidden inside that let you do all kinds of awesome stuff like go inside your own head! I know! Cool right?! There are 11 other keys to find in this house, but you’ll just have to watch the movie to see what all the other keys do and all the dram that ensues to find them and keep them.
7. Santa Clarita Diet
Let me start this one off my saying this show was canceled after the third season and I’m still pissed about it because of how they left season 3 but don’t let that stray you from watching it! Maybe if more people watch it and demand an official final season, they’ll bring it back. Anyway, this show is not for someone who doesn’t like gore, or zombies for that matter. Let me explain. This show takes place in, you guessed it, Santa Clarita, California and Drew Barrymore, yes, she’s in this, somehow ends up becoming a zombie! (I know how I’m just not going to spoil it for you). Now she’s not like the regular zombies you see on movie and tv shows like the Walking Dead, she’s a human zombie. She still looks and acts normal except now she wants to eat people. I will warn you this show can get gross, the way she turns into a zombie is nasty! But this show is also HILARIOUS! Like all of the characters are super funny especially Timothy Olyphant, who plays Drew Barrymore’s husband, he is so sarcastic with his humor but also is very supportive when he finds out his wife is a flesh-eating zombie. I love it and I guarantee you will too, if you like that stuff.
6. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (CAOS)
I’ll admit when I first heard they were making a new Sabrina the Teenage witch show, I was a little mad! I grew up with the original and to this day it’s still amazing so I wasn’t sure how they could recreate it but boy was I wrong! This show is absolutely NOTHING like the Sabrina we grew up knowing and loving back in the 90s, the only thing this Sabrina has in common with the OG Sabrina is a few of the characters are the same! Like she still lives with Aunt Hilda and Zelda and she has a cat named Salem, this one doesn’t talk though, and she has a boyfriend names Harvey but that’s it! The entire plot of the show is wayyy different then the 90s sitcom. The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is a graphic novel they transformed in a Netflix Original and its dark and creepy. Like worship the devil dark but it’s so good! So, if you were thinking about watching this show because you loved the original one back in the 90s, don’t watch it because it’s nothing like that AT ALL! But if the way I described CAOS makes you still want to watch it even though its nothing like the 90s sitcom, 100% go for it!! Also, if you like Riverdale, then definitely watch it! It’s the same vibe, same creepy strange things happen, except this one makes more sense because there are actually witches and warlocks in this show, and CAOS takes place in Greendale which is the neighboring town to Riverdale, and they mention Riverdale quite a bit as well! I’m hoping for a cross over episode!!
5. The Haunting of Hill House
When this show came out, I binge watched it in 2 days! No joke! And I’ve seen a few more times since then! This one is one of the creepiest shows I’ve watched on Netflix so it’s perfect for me! This show is all about the Crain family and flashes back and forth from their past to the present and how the way their lives are now all has to do with what happened inside Hill House. I can’t believe it’s already been 2 years almost since this show first came out. There is only one season out right now but, just like American Horror Story, they have said each season is going to be a completely different story. So, the first season of The Haunting of Hill House is its own and finishes off nicely so you’re not stuck wondering what’s going to happen next after the last episode.
4. Atypical
Let’s take a break from the creep/scary shows for a minute and talk about this VERY underrated show for a second. Atypical is one of the most heartfelt tv shows I have watched, in a long time! This show definitely doesn’t get the hype it deserves and that’s really sad! When I find someone who watches this show I can’t help but get excited and want to talk all about because it’s just that good. This show follows a boy named Sam and his family and how Sam gets through life while having Autism. This show will make you, laugh and cry a lot, maybe an equal amount of both, but its just so good it’s really worth it! This show has 3 seasons at the moment, and I am impatiently awaiting season 4, which I think is the final season, at the moment but I just looked it up and I don’t think it comes out until next year!!!! Well after you finish this show you’ll have plenty more to watch and hold you over until season 4 starts!
3. The Umbrella Academy
This show is unlike any other I’ve seen before! So basically 43 women around the world all gave birth at the same time and the same day, which I know sounds normal but get this, they weren’t pregnant before they gave birth!!! So, then this old man, Sir Reginald Hargreaves, sweeps in and is able to adopt 7 of these babies and form The Umbrella Academy! Each of these kids have their own powers and this show is all about these kids, who are now grown up and grown apart, they now have to reunite again so that they can save the world from ending! I know sounds kind of cheesy, but I promise you it is not! The cast is amazing, the show in general is amazing and also the soundtrack for the show, yep that’s right, amazing! I 100% recommend watching this one, but let me warn you, you will finish it fast!
2. Sex Education
No, this show isn’t like the one they show you in Health class in high school where it’s all awkward and weird. Well I mean this show can be awkward and weird but c’mon it’s about high schoolers navigating the world of sex and everything in it! I love this show because its witty and hilarious but also very down to earth and touches based on actual problems real people have! Also, it takes place somewhere in the UK and I absolutely love British shows because I love the way they talk!!! Oh, and I did I mention Otis, the main character in the show, has a sex therapist for a mom! Yeah that makes for some quality stuff right there!
1. Stranger Things
Alright the one you have all been waiting for! My number one show to binge watch on Netflix, is obviously Stranger Things!!! I mean who didn’t see that one coming?! If you don’t already know what this show is about, which you should, I’ll enlighten you anyway. Season 1 of this show takes place in the early 80s and follows these 4 best friends who are complete nerds, which I love, but one of them ends up disappearing and then they find this girl who is named Eleven and they come to realize she has super human powers and has something to do with their friend disappearing and knows how to get him back but it’s not going to be easy! This show is all the Sci-Fi/retro you could ever need in this world and then some! It has action, horror, mystery and drama and it’s going to keep you hooked on it even after you finish all 3 seasons and are now patiently waiting season 4 like the rest of us! If you watch any show on this list, watch this one! But also, definitely watch them all if you haven’t already!
Well that’s my list of top 10 Netflix original shows to watch! Like I said in the beginning this list was really hard to make because I watch a lot of shows and still have quite a few that I went back and forth with to put on here but in the end, I’m happy with my list and I hope it gave you an idea of some new shows to watch! Especially during quarantine! So settle down, get comfy, grab some snacks and your favorite blank and Happy Binging!
